Stinkerpants Wedding: Flowers and Decor
October 15, 2008 in Wedding (also on Weddingbee) • Flowers • Recap Photos
I am so excited about my flowers. To this day, I get a bit of a thrill looking at them. Our florist, Leanne of Callalily Flowers, is truly an artist. I don’t know very much about flowers, so when we started talking about what my vision was, I just said, “lots and lots of color.” For the bridesmaids and groomsmen, I wanted stark white–and I found some fun ribbon to spice things up.
My bouquet was TO DIE FOR. I seriously could not have imagined anything better. The texture, the color…WOW.

Y’s boutonniere was also a masterpiece. After the wedding, I kept wondering if our photographer had managed to get a picture of it (there was a mix up, and the portraits of Y were taken before the flowers arrived). Luckily Kim is amazing and managed to get some! Because I am so in love with this (why, oh why, do flowers have to die?!), I’m posting two:

I love how the white looks against the bright bridesmaid dresses:

How awesome are these boutineres? They’re white, but they’re so special!

Moving on, to the reception…our centerpieces were amazing. Those are little cards hanging from them with cropped versions of that table’s drawing.

OMG amazing.

The room, while people were eating dinner….

There are obviously more details, but they’ll be sprinkled out in the rest of the posts. :)
Um, so I realized I totally forgot the cocktail hour. Oops. Completely out of order, that’s what’s up next!!
CommentDIY Flowers…is it possible?

Last November Miss Penguin and I both went to a DIY Flower Workshop hosted by Karen of Huckleberry Karen Designs. I have to say, I learned SO MUCH from that workshop. Ever since, I’ve been making pretty arrangements in my house and admiring the centerpieces in Safeway. I’m not sure I’m physically capable of making a gorgeous bouquet, but there were a lot of girls there who were surprised by their own talent and are planning to DIY their flowers!
I just got an email from Karen–it turns out that she’s doing another one on April 6th! For those San Francisco Bay Area brides who are interested in doing your own flowers (or just learning more about flowers in general), this was an awesome workshop. Check it out here! I’m going to go again, because practice makes perfect. :)
Here are some pictures from the one I went to:

I didn’t USED to care about flowers!

Going into this wedding, I didn’t care so much about certain aspects of the planning. For instance, I didn’t care about flowers. I recall saying, “whatever, anything will do.”
Famous last words.
I gained a whole new respect for flowers after I went to a workshop offered by Huckleberry Karen back in November (Miss Penguin was there, too!). Before I went, I was under the delusion that I might be able to DIY my flowers. HA! I don’t think so. I had a VERY hard time putting together my bouquet:

It wasn’t nearly as pretty as some of the other participants, and it’s not nearly as complicated as the bouquet I really wanted for my wedding. This bouquet is the inspiration for my entire color scheme, and I am madly in love with it (from the knot real wedding of Heather and Ryan in Los Gatos):

Words cannot even explain the love that I feel for this bouquet.So. After I fell madly in love with a bouquet that I had no hopes of recreating myself, I went on a hunt for a florist and more flower ideas. Because I will be wearing white while carrying my beautiful, colorful bouquet, I thought it would be cool if my bridesmaids had white bouquets to carry with their colorful dresses. The groomsmen will have white boutonnieres, and Mr. Cream Puff will have a brightly colored one to match my bouquet.I’m still working on centerpiece ideas with my florist, but I know that we’re doing a mix of tall and short. I’ll keep you guys updated!
